The San Jose Sharks announced major changes to their hockey operations staff tonight.

Doug Wilson Jr., who’s been with the team for a decade and was the Sharks’ Director of Scouting, has exited the organization.

Meanwhile, Doug Weight has been hired as a Hockey Operations Advisor. Weight most recently spent eight years in various roles with the New York Islanders, from head coach to assistant general manager.

On another note, the Sharks also did not extend qualifying offers to Jonathan Dahlen and Nicolas Meloche. Dahlen is 24 years old and scored 12 goals and 22 points in 61 games with the Sharks this season, while Meloche is the same age and spent 50 games on the Sharks’ blue line.

Joachim Blichfeld, Zach Gallant, Jake McGrew, Antoine Morand, Brinson Pasichnuk and Zach Sawchenko were also not extended qualifying offers.

It wasn’t entirely shocking to see Dahlen, Meloche and others not qualified, but we’ll see if it ends up being the right call. The Sharks are still building for the future and could’ve brought them back for another year but both Dahlen and Meloche are now in their mid 20s at this point and weren't likely to take a huge step.
