The San Jose Sharks have re-signed goalie Kaapo Kahkonen and forward Luke Kunin. Each player's deal is for two years and will carry a $2.75 million cap hit, according to PuckPedia.
Kahkonen is 25 years old and was acquired from the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline. In 11 games with the Sharks after the deal, the netminder posted a .916 save percentage and had an overall save percentage of .912 through 36 games in 2021-22.
Kahkonen's re-signed ✍️
We've re-signed goaltender @KaapoKahkonen to a two-year contract.
Kahkonen had recently filed for arbitration and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the contract.
Kunin was acquired from the Nashville Predators earlier this month. The forward is 24 years old and scored 13 goals and 22 points in 82 games with Nashville last season. He'll be a restricted free agent at the end of the deal.
I may go more in-depth on these contracts in the next little while but just as a quick note, both are fine deals. Each player has upside but more of a sample size is still needed to determine if and where they could fit with the Sharks long-term.
