The San Jose Sharks announced today that they’ve signed defenseman Mario Ferraro to a four-year contract. The deal carries a $3.25 million cap hit, according to CapFriendly.
Ferraro is 23 years old and has spent the last three seasons with the Sharks, playing 180 career NHL games. This past season, he managed 14 points in 63 games, while playing an average of 23 minutes per game.
While Ferraro is arguably playing in a larger role than ideal given the team’s lack of defensive depth, he’s emerged as one of the team’s most promising young players. He’ll be counted on even more without Brent Burns and getting him locked in at a reasonable cap hit for four years is a win.
