The San Jose Sharks announced today that they’ve signed newly acquired forwards Carl Grundstrom and Ty Dellandrea, with each player getting a two-year contract.
Grundstrom was brought over from the Los Angeles Kings last week, in exchange for Kyle Burroughs. The winger can be a good add for the team’s bottom-six, with the ability to have an impact on the forecheck and in battles, as well as not shying away from finishing his checks. While he’s typically only produced at a rate of about 20-25 points per 82 games, Grundstrom has shown that he can contribute at times, with a hard and quick release on his wrist shot. His $1.8 million cap hit comes in slightly higher than the two-year deal at a $1.65 million cap hit that I had projected, at HockeyComparables.com.
Meanwhile, Dellandrea was previously acquired from the Dallas Stars, in exchange for a fourth-round pick. The forward got into just 42 regular season games – managing nine points – as well as only six playoff games. While Dellandrea could get a larger opportunity in San Jose, the forward group is looking a little overcrowded, and Dellandrea will likely need to battle for ice time in San Jose as well. His $1.25 million cap hit comes in as expected: I had a $1.3M cap hit as the projection for a two-year contract for Dellandrea, at HockeyComparables.com.
Meanwhile, the team also announced that Ryane Clowe has been named as the team's assistant general manager. Clowe spent parts of eight seasons with the Sharks during his playing career, and had spent the last three seasons as an advisor with the New York Rangers.
