The San Jose Sharks signed their first-round pick from this year’s NHL Draft, forward Ozzy Wiesblatt, to a three-year entry-level contract yesterday.

The signing was overshadowed by the news of Joe Thornton leaving the Sharks after 15 years to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs but the signing was certainly a key piece of news, nonetheless.

Wiesblatt, who was selected 31st overall by the Sharks, had 24 goals and 70 points in 64 WHL games with the Prince Albert Raiders this year. He’s likely to return to the Raiders for the 2020-21 season and while Wiesblatt is probably still a few years off from joining the Sharks, he’s one of San Jose’s most promising prospects.
