The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Tomas Hertl to an eight-year contract extension, which carries a $8.14 million cap hit. Hertl was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Hertl has spent his entire career with the Sharks and this season, he’s scored 25 goals and 48 points in 59 games, a pace of 35 goals and 67 points per 82 games.
It’s a major extension, keeping Hertl with the Sharks until 2030, when he’ll be 36 years old. While Hertl is a key forward for the Sharks it’s still an interesting decision to see him re-signed to a long-term deal, considering his age and where the organization is at right now.
A more in-depth breakdown of the deal will be posted in the coming days.
