Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is listed as day-to-day, head coach Dallas Eakins told reporters yesterday.
Zegras took a hit against the Arizona Coyotes in a preseason game last week, which forced him out of action. It’s really encouraging news that Zegras isn’t expected to miss more time, given he went down pretty hard after the hit and anything involving head contact is always concerning.
Meanwhile, no timeline has been given on Urho Vaakanainen’s return, after he was released from hospital following a scary crash into the boards in Friday’s preseason game against the San Jose Sharks.
The Ducks also announced on Saturday that they’ve signed defenseman Nathan Beaulieu to a one-year contract, worth $850,000.
Beaulieu is 29 years old and managed four assists in 24 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season. He was participating in Anaheim’s training camp and preseason on a professional tryout.
I’m not quite sure what to make of Beaulieu getting a contract and potentially earning a roster spot. Even if he can be a solid depth addition, the Ducks should still be looking more towards building for the future and getting younger defensemen like Simon Benoit and Josh Mahura into action should arguably be more of a priority.
