The Anaheim Ducks snapped their four-game losing streak tonight, beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1.

Sam Carrick, Nicolas Deslauriers, Derek Grant, Ryan Getzlaf and Trevor Zegras were all out for the Ducks, so Bryce Kindopp made his NHL debut, Danny O’Regan made his Ducks’ debut and Benoit-Olivier Groulx also entered back into to the lineup.

The Ducks opened the scoring early on a shot from Hampus Lindholm that changed direction off of Troy Terry’s stick and fooled Carter Hart (as well as most players and viewers, given that it looked to have gone off the crossbar but was determined to have gone in after a review).

Then midway through the frame, Troy Terry got around Travis Sanheim with great speed and drove in alone, going to the backhand with a nice move to beat Hart, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Flyers would get one back before the end of the period though, as Cam Atkinson deflected a puck past John Gibson to cut the lead to 2-1.

Like the first period, while there weren’t necessarily a ton of shots on goal in the second frame there were some good chances, with John Gibson having to make some key saves. The Ducks then managed to extend the lead on a power play late in the period, as Sam Steel got a great pass to Sonny Milano, who redirected it past Hart.

The third period was arguably the most exciting frame and again, Gibson had to be good to maintain Anaheim’s lead. Then with under a minute to go in the game, Troy Terry buried his first career hat trick with an empty net goal.

It was a strong effort from the Ducks who were missing about half of their regular forward group. Obviously, Terry’s hat trick is the story but Max Comtois also looked good tonight and is hopefully getting back to form since returning to the lineup.

One key is the Ducks didn’t get into penalty trouble and won the special teams matchup tonight. Anaheim allowed just a single power play for the Flyers, while going 2-for-4 on the man advantage. It was a nice change of pace, given the team’s penalty trouble over the last couple of games.

The Ducks’ next game comes on Thursday against the Detroit Red Wings.
