The Anaheim Ducks played four games this week and made two trades on deadline day. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

DUCKS WIN TWO OF FOUR GAMES

The Ducks won two of four games this week, sweeping the San Jose Sharks in a two-game series, before dropping two games to the Vegas Golden Knights later in the week.

FLEURY ACQUIRED FROM HURRICANES FOR HAKANPAA + PICK

In Anaheim’s biggest deal of the deadline, the Ducks dealt defenseman Jani Hakanpaa and a sixth-round pick in next year’s draft to the Carolina Hurricanes, in exchange for Haydn Fleury. Hakanpaa played 42 games with the Ducks this year, while Fleury had played 167 career NHL games with the Hurricanes.

DUCKS TRADE HUTTON TO MAPLE LEAFS

In a separate deadline deal, the Ducks also traded defenseman Ben Hutton to the Toronto Maple Leafs, in exchange for a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft. Hutton signed with Anaheim in the offseason and played 34 games with the Ducks this season.

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you think the Hakanpaa for Fleury trade was a good move for the Ducks?

(Votes: 93)

Yes: 67%
No: 33%

I’m still a bit torn on this deal. While Fleury is younger and has more offensive upside, it just seems odd to me that out of everyone, Hakanpaa was the player dealt. We'll also have to see how Fleury continues to develop with the Ducks.

QUESTION: Do you think the Ducks should have made bigger moves at the deadline?

(Votes: 90)

Yes: 80%
No: 20%

The deadline was definitely a missed opportunity for the Ducks, in my opinion. They failed to acquire meaningful assets and aren’t moving overly quickly in building for the future.

QUESTION: Do you expect key players to be dealt in the offseason?

(Votes: 71)

Yes: 76%
No: 24%

I think there certainly should be some major players dealt in the offseason, though I can’t bring myself to say I think we’ll see it happen. Bob Murray has delayed fully committing to a rebuild and I’m not sure that’ll change in the offseason.
