The Anaheim Ducks lost most of their games this week but were finally able to snap their losing skid. Here's a recap of news and notes for the week.
DUCKS LOSE THREE OF FOUR GAMES
The Ducks lost three of four games this week, after getting swept in a two-game series against the St. Louis Blues, then falling to the Colorado Avalanche in overtime on Friday. They finally snapped their nine-game losing skid in a rematch against the Avalanche last night. They've slipped in the standings as a result of the losing streak and they currently sit at the bottom of the West Division, as well as fourth-last in the league (points percentage).
GUHLE PLACED ON WAIVERS AND CLEARS
In a somewhat surprising move, the Ducks placed defenseman Brendan Guhle on waivers. He cleared the following day and was assigned to the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
LINDHOLM OUT SIX WEEKS
The Ducks will be without their top defenseman for the next six weeks, as Hampus Lindholm recovers from a fractured wrist. Lindholm was averaging more ice time at even strength than any other player on the Ducks.
MANSON RETURNS TO LINEUP
While Anaheim did lose a member of their top-four group, they got back another, as Josh Manson returned to the lineup after missing about six weeks with an oblique injury. Manson played in both of Anaheim’s games against Colorado.
As for our poll questions, here are some of the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.
QUESTION: Do you feel as though the Ducks should commit to a rebuild?
(Votes: 74)
Yes: 99%
No: 1%
Heading into the season, I thought retooling on the fly could be possible, even if unlikely. This season has shown that’s not possible and the Ducks need to go through the process of a rebuild.
QUESTION: Are you happy with Josh Mahura’s performance with the Ducks so far?
(Votes: 37)
Yes: 65%
Don't feel strongly either way: 19%
No: 16%
I was hopeful Mahura would get some time with the Ducks this season and so far, he’s taken advantage of the opportunity. He has one goal and three points in seven games and while there’s room to improve defensively, he’s at least been decent in his own end.
QUESTION: Are you surprised Brendan Guhle wasn’t claimed off waivers?
(Votes: 63)
Yes: 68%
No: 32%
Guhle being waived was somewhat unexpected in the first place and the fact that he wasn’t claimed was equally surprising. He’s only 23 years old and could be pretty effective with the Ducks but isn't getting the opportunity, as a result of Anaheim’s crowded blue line.
