The New York Islanders had games cancelled last week and when they did return to action, they managed to snap their five-game losing skid. Here’s our recap of news and notes from last week.

ISLANDERS WIN SOLE GAME OF WEEK

Both of the New York Islanders’ games against the Buffalo Sabres were cancelled last week, as a result of COVID concerns. New York finally returned to action on Saturday, picking up a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders will be back in action tonight against the New York Rangers.

BEAUVILLIER REMAINS INJURED

Forward Anthony Beauvillier is still injured and didn’t return to the lineup in New York’s game against Pittsburgh on Saturday. It’s unclear as to when Beauvillier could return to the lineup but he did resume skating this week.

As for our poll questions, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTIONS: Which player do you feel has had the most trouble defensively this season?

(Votes: 84)

Nick Leddy: 26%
Scott Mayfield: 23%
Andy Greene: 20%
Noah Dobson: 11%
Adam Pelech: 11%
Ryan Pulock: 10%

I’m not going to argue that Leddy and Mayfield will need to be better but I also don’t think Dobson has been great in his own end either. As a whole, the group is certainly off to a slow start.

QUESTION: How are you feeling about the Islanders, based on their start to the season?

(Votes: 86)

Concerned, worried about the season: 69%
Not concerned, they’ll recover: 31%

I think in a full length season, New York’s start isn’t necessarily cause for concern. But given the 56-game season and how strong some of the other East Division teams have started, it’s not a great spot for the Islanders to be.
