The Philadelphia Flyers (4-4-1) will host the Buffalo Sabres (4-5-0) at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday in the first game of a home-and-home set. Gametime is 7:00 p.m. EDT. The teams will play again on Friday at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.

The Flyers enter this game coming off a 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. Philadelphia was outplayed in the first period but took a 2-1 lead to intermission on goals by Owen Tippett (2nd of the season) and Garnet Hathaway (1st). The Hurricanes continued to hold an edge in the second period and took the game to the third period tied at 2-2. Philly was the better club in an action=packed third period but the lone goal belonged to Carolina. After the Hurricanes took the lead in the latter stages of the third period, they slammed the door.

Carter Hart made 30 saves in a losing cause. The Flyers went 0-for-5 on the power play. Philly, which went 0-for-1 on the penalty kill, has allowed opposing power play goals on each of the last three opportunities (Anaheim was 2-for-2 in Saturday afternoon's game).

The Flyers held a noon practice on Tuesday at the FTC in Voorhees. Afterwards, they hosted 30 active-duty military members and their families, arranged by the USO. The team also made a roster move, sending goaltender Felix Sandström to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms on a two-week conditioning assignment. Sandström has not played at all since the Sept. 28 preseason game against the New York Islanders.

Flyers defenseman Victor Mete, who was recalled to the team last weekend, was not in the building for Monday's game. His wife Courtney was giving birth to baby girl named Milena.
Mother and baby are reportedly doing very well.

In Monday's game, Morgan Frost returned to the Flyers lineup after a seemingly eternal six-game stretch as a DND. Scott Laughton centered the fourth line, and Ryan Poehling exited the lineup.

With three games upcoming in a four-night span (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday), Sean Couturier and Travis Sanheim each took a maintenance day on Tuesday. Both are fine to play against the Sabres. The team did not take line rushes at Tuesday's practice. Projected lineups below are based on Monday's lineup.

The Sabres enter this game coming off a stellar performance in a 4-0 home shutout win over the powerhouse Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. Buffalo held Colorado to just 23 shots on goal, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen recorded his first career NHL shutout.

The Sabres took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission on JJ Peterka's fourth goal of the young season. Buffalo built a commanding 3-0 edge by midway through the game on tallies by Casey Mittelstadt (2nd) and Tyson Jost (1st). Star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (2nd) added further insurance in the latter stages of the third period.
