Game 19 Preview: Flyers vs. Flames

John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (7-7-4) are home on Monday to take on Darryl Sutter's Calgary Flames (8-7-2) on Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Wells Fargo Center. Game time is 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Flyers are winless in their last six games (0-4-2) and riddled with injuries. The team is coming off a 5-4 (1-0) shootout loss in Montreal on Saturday. Owen Tippett scored twice in regulation with Travis Sanheim and Kevin Hayes notching a goal apiece. In the shootout, the Flyers went 0-for-3. Morgan Frost came the closest, putting his attempt off the inside of the right goal post and then the left.

Monday's match is the third game of a six-game eastern time zone road trip for the Flames. Calgary is coming off a a 5-4 (2-1) victory in a five-round shootout against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Adam Ruzicka scored twice in regulation, while Nikita Zadorov and Blake Coleman also scored. In the skills competition, Jonathan Huberdeau and Rasmus Andersson converted their attempts to claim the bonus point.

Phantoms Drop Road Trip Finale, 6-4

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (7-6-1) saw their five-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday as they sustained a 6-4 road loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds. On both Friday and Saturday, the Phantoms earned road wins over the first-place Providence Bruins.

Samuel Ersson, who had started six straight games, got a well-earned day off on Sunday. With Troy Grosenick unavailable due to injury, minor league veteran Pat Nagle got the start in Springfield. Bombarded with 46 shots, Nagle stopped 40 and was beaten on the other six.

Penalty killing has been a sore spot for the Phantoms most of the season to date, although there had been recent improvements prior to Sunday. In Springfield, Lehigh Valley got torched for four power play goals by Springfield on six opportunities. For the season, the Phantoms' PK dropped to an atrocious 66.7 percent (ranked last among the AHL's 32 teams).

The Phantoms went 1-for-6 on the power play. They received goals from Garrett Wilson (PPG, 3rd), Wyatte Wylie (1st), Jackson Cates (4th) and Ronnie Attard (4th). Anthony Angello notched a hat trick for the Thunderbirds with a 5-on-5 goal and two power play tallies.

Tanner Laczynski, who had a breakaway goal, two assists and shootout-winning goal in two games against Providence on Friday and Saturday, was not in the Phantoms' lineup in Springfield. That's a possible precursor to an NHL recall with both Scott Laughton and Travis Konecny sidelined.
