Game 23 Preview: Flyers vs. Avalanche
Looking to end an eight-game winless skid, the Philadelphia Flyers (8-10-4) return to the ice on Monday to host the Colorado Avalanche (12-7-6). Game time at the Wells Fargo Center is 7:00 p.m. ET ( NBCSP+, 93.3 WMMR).
Alain Vigneault has been dismissed as Flyers head coach, along with assistant coach Michel Therrien. Mike Yeo will stay on with the team. Yeo will be behind the bench as interim head coach for the game against Colorado.
For a preview of the game, see the
Five Things feature on the Flyers official website. Lineups will be posted when available.
Last night, the Flyers suffered a humiliating 7-1 blowout home loss at the hands of the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, who completed a sweep of the three-game season series with two regulation victories and a shootout decision. Tampa was playing without the services of Brayden Point or Nikita Kucherov and had veteran goalie Brian Elliott (who'd struggled in spot duty this season) starting in goal to give Andrei Vasilevskiy a rest. The Flyers were a rested team, having had three nights off. Tampa was playing its fifth game in seven nights and had just gone overtime the previous night in Boston.
None of those on-paper boosts made the slightest difference in the game. For a recap and analysis, see the
Postgame 5 on the Flyers' official website.
