Quick Hits: July 3, 2024

1) The Flyers released their 2024-25 regular season schedule on Tuesday. The season starts with a four-game road trip (opening in Vancouver on October 11) to play the Canucks, Flames, Oilers and Kraken.

The home opener on October 19 against the Canucks will bring their season series against Vancouver to a very early conclusion. From there, the Flyers play a home-and-home set with the Washington Capitals -- five of the season's first seven games are road contests -- and then spend the rest of the month of October on home ice.

With the entire NHL going on hiatus for much of February in order to play the Four Nations Face-Off tourament (Feb. 12 to 20) at the Bell Centre in Montreal and TD Garden in Boston, every team is going to have some exceptionally compacted stretches of the schedule. The Flyers are no exception, but their schedule is particularly compacted: 13 back-to-back sets, including 11 gauntlets of three games in four nights.

Also notable is that the season-opening road trip out to the Pacific coast has no built-in off-day after the Flyers return. They have a 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local time) game in Seattle on October 17th, have a wee hours flight back to Philadelphia on the 18th, and the home opener against the Canucks is at 7:00 p.m. ET on the 19th.

The Flyers often play the New York Rangers in the annual Black Friday matinee at Wells Fargo Center and it's often part of a gauntlet of three games in four nights. That's the case again this year but with more travel rather than all eastern time zone games: at Nashville on Nov. 27, off-day for U.S. Thanksgiving, home against New York on Nov. 29 and at St. Louis on the evening of Nov. 30.

The Flyers December break overlapping the leaguewide Christmas break runs from Dec. 24 to 27, 2024. From there, the Flyers make their annual California road trip. There's a New Year's eve game in San Jose and a Jan. 2 match in Vegas.

The final game of the regular season is on April 17 in Buffalo. The Flyers play four of their final six games on the road.

2) Development Camp Day 2 schedule (July 3, 2024):

8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m: Team Briere goalies/defense on-ice
9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Team Briere full team on-ice
10:30 a.m. to 11:15. a.m.: Team Briere forwards on-ice

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Team Jones goalies/defense on-ice
12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Team Jones full team on-ice
1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Team Jones forwards on-ice

Nick Schultz will speak to the media at 10:30 a.m. today. Team Briere members have late morning/ early afternoon media available. Team Jones speaks from mid-afternoon to the latter afternoon with 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. sessions.

3) Best of luck to Cam Atkinson. Recently bought out by the Flyers, the veteran winger signed a one-year contract on Tuesday with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
