Quick Hits: Bruins Beat Flyers, 5-2; Phantom Lose in OT,3-2

Wrap: Bruins Beat Flyers, 5-2

The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Boston Bruins, 5-2, at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday evening. The Flyers erased a two-goal deficit in the second period but then Boston pulled away.

Philadelphia finished its three-game homestand with a 1-1-1 record.

Tomas Nosek (2nd goal of the season) scored late in the first period to open a 1-0 lead for Boston. Derek Forbort (3rd) and Derick Brassard (3rd) traded off early second period markers. Brassard (PPG, 4th) then tallied again, this time on the power play to knot the score at 2-2. Forbort notched his second goal of the game in the latter stages of the second period to put Boston ahead again, 3-2.

Early in the third period, Craig Smith (1st) re-established a two-goal lead for the Bruins. David Pastrnak (5th) added further insurance during a 4-on-4.

Martin Jones was sharp early but was eventually solved five times by the Bruins. He finished with 39 saves on 44 shots. Linus Ullmark earned the win in net for Boston. Ullmark stopped 28 of 30 shots.

The Flyers went 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-3on the penalty kill.

Phantoms Lose in OT, 3-2

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms lost their second straight game that went beyond regulation. On Saturday, the Phantoms saw a 2-0 lead disappear after the first period and lost a road overtime decision, 3-2, to the Toronto Marlies.

The Phantoms controlled the first period (11-4 shot advantage) and took a 2-0 lead to intermission. Scoring for the second straight game, Morgan Frost (3rd) went upstairs to beat Michael Hutchinson (24 saves on 26 shots) and put the Phantoms ahead early. Garrett Wilson and Cam York received the assists. Isaac Ratcliffe (2nd) stashed home a rebound at 16:13. The assists went to Jackson Cates and Hayden Hodgson.

Lehigh Valley only registered an additional 11 shots over the final 40 minutes of regulation. A second period goal by Marc Michaelis and early third period tally by Richard Clune tied the game at 2-2 and sent it to overtime. Lehigh Valley controlled most of the OT, registering four shots. Finally, Josh Ho-Sang beat Cam York on the rush and fired a shot past Phantoms goalie Pat Nagle (16 saves on 19 shots) to end the game.

Frost has at least one point in six of his last seven games. Over his last 10 games, he has posted 13 points (3g, 10a).

The Phantoms went 0-for-4 on the power play on Sunday, dropping to 9.72 percent for the season (7 for 72).
