The Dallas Stars finished their five-game road trip with a 2-3-0 record, dropping a 5-2 verdict to the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. The Stars fell to 7-6-0 on the season, while the Jets improved to 7-3-2.
A hat trick by Mark Scheifele (power play, even strength and empty net markers for his 5th, 6th and 7th goals of the season) led the way offensively for the Jets. Patrik Laine (5th) and Tyler Myers (power play, 2nd) rounded out the scoring for Winnipeg. Blake Wheeler collected three assists. Connor Hellebuyck earned the win in net, stopping 21 of 23 shots.
The Jets climbed out to a 3-0 lead in the first 15:16 of the game and then pulled away again after Dallas cut the gap back to a single goal. Alexander Radulov (5th) and Mattias Janmark (3rd) scored for the Stars. Ben Bishop stopped 22 of 26 shots -- including a latter third period penalty shot by Kyle Conner -- in a losing effort.
The game also saw a spirited fight between Stars captain Jamie Benn and Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien early in the second period as well as one between Gemel Smith and Brendan Lemieux in the first.
The Stars return to action on Saturday, hosting the Buffalo Sabres (3-7-2).
