Quick Hits: August 12, 2022
1) Two blowouts and one shootout outcome highlighted Day 3 of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton.
Finland 4 - Czech Republic 3 (Group A, SO)
In a seesaw game that saw Finland trail 2-0, score the next three goals and then being unable to nail it down in regulation against Czechia, the Finns skated off with a 4-3 (1-0) victory via shootout on Thursday. Roby Järventie scored in regulation as well as the winning shootout goal for the Finns.
Canada 11 - Slovakia 1
Team Canada jumped out to a 4-0 lead and expanded it to 8-0 through two periods on their way to an 11-1 shellacking of Slovakia on Thursday. Mason McTavish led the way for the Canadians with four goals and two assists. Flyers prospect Tyson Foerster (12:09 TOI, two shots on goal) chipped in a secondary assist on Canada's fourth goal. Elliot Desnoyers (12:13 TOI, two shots on goal, 4-for-7 on faceoffs) did not record a point.
USA 7 - Switzerland 1
In a game that was scoreless until nearly the six-minute mark of the second period, Team USA finally forged ahead and went on to earn a 7-1 win over Switzerland. Carter Mazur had two goals and an assist for the Americans. Brian Zanetti (minus-two) skated 12:38 of ice time for the Swiss side.
2) Day 4: There are two games on the docket for Friday. Team Sweden (Emil Andrae) will take on Austria, while Slovakia plays Latvia.
3) The Flyers have released an upcoming schedule of important September to early October dates on the calendar:
