Flyers Beat the Blues, 5-2

The Philadelphia Flyers rode a fast start and a gritty finish to defeat the St. Louis Blues, 5-2, at the Enterprise Center on Thursday evening. The victory ended a 13-game road winless streak for the Flyers.

Travis Konecny notched two goals for the Flyers. In his NHL debut, Hayden Hodgson had a goal and an assist. The Flyers had an outstanding first period and then hung in competitively the rest of the way to grind out a victory.

Konecny (11th goal of the season) and Patrick Brown (4th) built a 2-0 lead for the Flyers in a surprisingly dominant first period. In the second period, Vladimir Tarasenko (power play, 21st) and Alexei Toropchenko (2nd) sandwiched goals around Konecny's second goal of the game (12th overall) as the Flyers took a 3-2 lead to the intermission. The Blues put on a furious charge in the third period until the Flyers counterpunched for a rebound goal by Hodgson (1st NHL goal) and an empty net goal by Joen Farabee (14th).

Martin Jones earned the win goal, stopping 26 of 28 shots including a dozen in the third period. Jones outplayed St, Louis counterpart Jordan Binnington. who had a so-so outing in making 22 saves on 26 shots.

The Flyers went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Blues went 1-for-3.
