The last time the Philadelphia Flyers earned a regulation road win over the Boston Bruins (October 6, 2011), it was opening night of the 2011-12 regular season.

Eighteen-year-old Sean Couturier made his NHL debut. Acquired over the summertime, brand new Flyers Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek made their Flyers debuts, along with goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, legendary right winger Jaromir Jagr (returning to the NHL after his KHL stint) and ex-Penguin Max Talbot.

On that night, after waiting out a 45-minute pregame ceremony in which the Bruins celebrated their 2010-11 Stanley Cup championship, the Flyers skated to a 2-1 regulation victory and protected a one-goal lead for the final 40 minutes. Bryzgalov outdueled reigning Vezina Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy winner in goal. Claude Giroux (still an alternate captain with Chris Pronger wearing the C) scored a nifty power play goal off the rush.

You get the idea: It was a long time ago. The Flyers played the Bruins some 20 times in Boston since then. The Bruins went 16-0-4 in those games.

Last night (Oct. 29, 2024), the Flyers finally put that horrid streak to rest. It was anything but easy. It took a combination of Samuel Ersson's 24-save shutout, 28 blocked shots in front of him and tallies by Tyson Foerster and Joel Farabee (empty net) to scratch out a 2-0 win. Emil Andrae (first career NHL point) made a nice play to set up Foerster's second effort goal. Morgan Frost got the secondary assist for a touch pass to Foerster on the initial part of the sequence. The Farabee empty netter was unassisted.
