Wrap: Devils 4 - Flyers 1

In the fourth game of a four-game gauntlet between the teams, the Philadelphia Flyers lost to the New Jersey Devils, 4-1, at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday evening. The Flyers, who were 11-4-3 on the season heading into March, have dropped to "hockey .500" (22-22-7) in a season that has gone horrifically off-track in many different regards.

For analysis of Saturday's game, see the Postgame 5 on the Flyers' official website.

Through the end of February, the Flyers had a 3.39 goals per game average and, buoyed by back-to-back shutouts against Buffalo had brought their season goals against average down to 2.89. The team had plenty of areas where they needed improvement but seemingly were starting to trend the right way despite their COVID outbreak and the pasting a still-depleted lineup took in Lake Tahoe against Boston.

Then March happened. April was when the team's offense really dried up, too. Compositely, since the beginning of March, the team is 11-18-4 with a 2.42 GPG average and a 3.94 GAA (4.41 in March; the worst GAA month in franchise history).

Phantoms Lose to Binghamton, 4-2

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms dropped a 4-2 home decision to the Binghamton Devils at the PPL Center on Saturday night. A third period two-man disadvantage -- Lehigh Valley got it back to 5-on-4 but couldn't extricate themselves all the way -- proved to be the turning point as Mason Jobst scored his second goal of the game for Binghamton and the Devils subsequently added an empty net goal.

Isaac Ratcliffe (2nd goal of the season) and Max Willman (8th) tallied 2nd period goals for the Phantoms, who grabbed a 2-1 lead before Jobst re-tied the game at 2-2 late in the second period. Ratcliffe's goal was scored point blank from the left slot off a pass-out from Chris Mueller. Willman's goal was a really nice individual effort to turn a non-dangerous play off an offensive zone entry into a nice goal as he shook loose, evaded a sliding defender and shot left and he moved right.
