Wrap: Flyers Stomp Seattle, 6-1
The Philadelphia Flyers skated to a 6-1 blowout victory over the expansion Seattle Kraken on Monday evening at the Wells Fargo Center in the first-ever meeting between the teams. Once the Flyers went up early on the Kraken, they were relentless in keeping up the pressure most of the rest of the way. Philadelphia also answered bell physically, with players standing up for their teammates.
The Flyers got first-period goals from Claude Giroux (2nd), Travis Konecny (2nd) and Derick Brassard (1st). Ryan Ellis (1st) and Justin Braun (1st) made it a 5-0 game before Seattle defenseman Carson Soucy (1st) got one back. In the third period, the Flyers kept the game under control and also tacked on Joel Farabee (2nd) goal.
Carter Hart earned the win in goal. He was tested a few times early before the Flyers got their game cranked up. A breakaway stop, a deflection save and a point-blank desperation denial of Jordan Eberle loomed huge before the Flyers turned the tide and grabbed control of the game. Hart finished with 24 saves on 25 shots.
Phillip Grubauer lasted just 28:49 before he was chased from the game. The Flyers beat him five times on 20 shots. Chris Driedger, seeing his first action with Seattle, took over in relief. He stopped 6 of 7 shots.
The Flyers went 0-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Nick Seeler stepped up to fight the massive Jamie Oleskiak in the carry-over from a Nicolas Aube-Kubel boarding penalty in the second period. Nick Bastian and Nate Thompson received misconducts from the same fray. Oleksiak easily got the better of the fight but the way Seeler gamely went up against Oleskiak and did not back down at all served to fire up his Flyers teammates at the Wells Fargo Center crowd. In the third period, Thompson stepped up in defense of Giroux and laid a beatdown (17 attempted punches) to Bastian, who could do little other than try to withstand the flurry.

Postgame 5 on the Flyers' official website. The Flyers will hold a noon practice on Tuesday at the FTC in Voorhees. On Wednesday, the team will face what's likely to be a more stout challenge from the Boston Bruins than they received from Seattle.
