the Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Detroit Red Wings, 6-3, at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday evening. The Flyers twice cut multi-goal deficits to a single goal but were never able to pull even before giving up two empty-net goals.

The Red Wings swept the three-game season series with the Flyers.

With the loss, the Flyers are now winless in their last 13 road games, spanning the entire 2022 calendar year to date. The last Flyers' road win was a 3-2 overtime win in Seattle back on Dec. 29. This is the longest road winless streak for the Flyers since the 1971-72 season.

The final score looked like a blowout but the never really felt out of reach until the first of the two Detroit empty-netter. The Flyers did not play either of those sequences well at all. Earlier, they paid the price for several turnovers and loose coverages. Rasmus Ristolainen had a particularly rough game, figuring directly in three Detroit goals.

There were some positives for the Flyers -- the continued recent strong play of Kevin Hayes, Travis Konecny (13 assists since the All-Star break) and Joel Farabee, a couple solid recent overall games from Ivan Provorov, hints of chemistry between newcomer Owen Tippett and Morgan Frost and a generally more resilient trend in battling after adversity strikes. The bottom line, however, is that the Flyers ended up with only another loss to show for it.

Joe Veleno (7th goal of the season) and Jakub Vrana (4th) built a 2-0 lead for the Red Wings in the first period. In the second period, Lucas Raymond (20th) and Vrana (2nd of the game, 8th of the season) sandwiched early-period and late-period tallies around goals by the Flyers' Farabee (13th) and Oskar Lindblom (11th). In the final stanza. James van Riemsdyk got the Flyers back within 4-3. Empty net tallies by Oskar Sundqvist (5th) and Tyler Bertuzzi (25th) sealed the final outcome.

Carter Hart did not have much chance of stopping at least three -- and arguably any -- of the four goals he yielded. Hart stopped 25 of 29 shots. Loose defense and turnovers in front of him proved costly. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 30 of 33 shots to earn the win in net for Detroit.

The Flyers went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Red Wings did not receive a power play in this game. There were two third-period fights between Zack MacEwen and Givani Smith.

The Flyers dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen in this game, mixing and matching forward combinations.
