Hello All,

The Washington Capitals won a tight contest in Detroit last night. The game was tied 1-1 until Ovechkin rocketed home a power play goal with 2:51 left in the third and 0:01 left in the power play. It was Ovechkin’s 275th career PPG. The goal officially moves Ovechkin past Dave Andreychuk for most power play goals in NHL history. It is a truly remarkable feat and all NHL should soak it in!

My Takeaways:

Ovechkin’s Milestone Night – I touched on it in my introduction but wow, what an incredible accomplishment by Ovechkin. He is the official list as provided by @CapitalsPR

Mario Lemieux had 236 goals in 915 games played which is good for 0.257 power play goals per game. Ovechkin’s power play goals per game is 0.224 which is second highest on the list behind Lemieux. Ovechkin’s reaction on the goal was AWESOME! Right on brand for his entire career. Here is the clip of the goal and reaction as provided by @WashCaps twitter:

Here is a quick list of additional milestones for Ovechkin last night:

Ovechkin scored his 1370th career point which moved him ahead of Johny Bucyk for 25th in all-time.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 119th career game-winning goal and surpassed Phil Esposito (118) for the third most in NHL history. Only Jaromir Jagr (135) and Gordie Howe (121) have more.

Ovechkin's 154th multi-goal game, tying him with Mario Lemieux for the third-most multi-goal games in NHL history.

Congrats on the big night, Ovi!

Kuznetsov Stays Hot – Kuzy opened up the scoring for the Capitals with this slick goal:

It was Kuznetsov’s 9th multi-point game of the season. Kuzy is now on a four game point streak. Kuzy has been one of the Capitals most clutch players this season. The Capitals will really need Kuzy to keep up this production in the playoffs if the Capitals are to be serious Stanley Cup contenders.

Rookie Contributors - Another Capitals rookie notched his first career NHL point last night. Lucas Johansen had the primary assist on the Kuzy goal. Johansen is the 10th Capitals rookie to record a point this season. The Capitals are one of two teams in the NHL to have at least 10 rookies with a point this season. San Jose has the most with 11 rookies recording a point.

Overall, just a fantastic night for the Capitals. Next up, the Capitals return home to face the New Jersey Devils at 3pm. I have two tickets to the game but im unsure if I am going to go. Call it a game-time decision.
