Nashville's GM David Poile announced this morning in the 2021-2022 Season Ending Press Conference that the team has extended Head Coach John Hynes and the entire coaching staff for 2 years.

Both Poile and Hynes reiterated their commitment to growing a youthful team and that the team has made progress of being a consistent playoff team. A lot of young guys were given their first 82-game schedule and provided a lot of opportunity to gain valuable experience in this league. Poile also stated that ownership had no impact on the team's current standing under the salary cap and that there are no limitations for this summer. Forsberg remains a priority. No commentary on what changes may be needed or positional targets that may be on their radar.

Poile believes that there was no lack of effort on the part of the team this year and citing multiple times the fact the team has a Vezina finalist, Norris finalist, a player in the Calder conversation with most goals as a rookie, and two 40 goal scorers.

States that coaches have done a fantastic job. Hynes has not been dealt a perfect hand and Poile takes responsibility for that along with citing the difficulties of the first two years of Hynes' tenure with COVID, etc. In response to why extending Hynes despite playoff record with Preds, Poile says that is his fault for not providing the weapons to succeed.

Poile responds that he is always open to bringing individuals in front the outside to make the front office better and to see different views. This conference has made it abundantly clear that ownership still has complete faith in this coaching staff and front office.

I'll provide a deep dive on my analysis of the team, this past season, and what's to come later on. But these are the high points from the presser this morning.

A lot of what the high points were but little reflection on the path forward and what they found to be the downsides of the season. Perhaps summer moves will make this more evident. But the lack of self-reflection and presentation of any kind of plan is quite disappointing from a fan perspective. We are all aware of the cliched responses of Vezina, Norris, Calder, and 40 goal scorers. I want to hear the answers to the tough questions of the multitude of issues that existed in the last few months of the season and the first round. Being average and just making the playoffs may be good for business to add a bit more to the coffers but does not always align with a team being able to truly contend.
