With the news of Erik Karlsson resigning with the Sharks for eight years at a reported $92 million what does that mean for Joe Pavelski?

He is all but priced out of San Jose and we all know that Paul Fenton would love to bring in the former Badger to help this Wild team both on and off the ice.

It is a busy time as the draft looms at the end of the week. Paul Fenton is not in the market to trade draft picks as he knows the value they bring to his organization that was left quite bare by his predecessor.

The Wild have cap room and Pavelski makes a lot of sense. He is soon to be 35 which is a factor, however coming off a 38 goal campaign and the fact that he is also a big game player on and off the ice, Joe would be an immediate asset to the Wild as they rebuild their image.

The burning question that I have is what is the plan for Jared Spurgeon? Is Fenton just waiting to get him resigned to an extension or is he testing the waters on his most reliable rearguard?

If he is to move Spurgeon, who himself wants to be part of a contender which could play into his own decision whether or not he even wants to stay in Minnesota. This is the key guy to get it right with, if he isn't planning on signing long term then make the move now do not wait until the trade deadline on this one.

On the flipside moving Spurgeon carries a big percentage of risk. Can Fenton get the return on his asset if he chooses to cash in now?

Fun times are here Wild fans, this is all about the changing of the guard. Fenton is on duty and he has his master plan to make the Wild a perennial playoff team with Stanley Cup aspirations. Let's enjoy the process as he goes about reshaping the organization.
