Can ANYONE Stop the Rangers? |
With the same caveat that I made about a week ago -- never assume a series is over until four wins in the bag and there's a handshake line -- it looks like the New York Rangers will advance to the Eastern Conference Final. They are on the brink of sweeping a very good Carolina Hurricanes team after doing the same to a middling Washington Capitals club that found itself in the lower wildcard spot in the East.
Keep in mind, even if the Rangers finish off a sweep of the Canes to go 8-0 in the playoffs, that winning two series only gets a team halfway to the Stanley Cup. Far different times from years ago when it took just two (Original Six era) or three series to lift the Cup. A lot can -- and may change -- in the next few weeks.
Right now, it doesn't look like Carolina has much shot at joining the ranks of teams that overcome a 3-0 series deficit. Beyond that, is there ANYONE who can stop the Rangers with the way the entire team -- starting with Igor Sheshterkin -- is playing. Florida? Boston? Whoever comes out of the West (Vancouver, Edmonton, Dallas, Colorado?
Right now, at least, the Rangers would have the edge over ANY of the remaining teams. How do YOU see it?
