As the ”what happened behind the scenes” deadline details continue to trickle out, one thing is becoming more and more apparent…Erik Karlsson will be moved at the Draft…and San Jose knows the bidders are better than they were this month.
“San Jose could have made the Oilers deal by taking on more money. It was a great package, but they didn’t do it. Mainly because they know there were other, non playoff team suitors, who were telling them to wait until the Draft….and they would make it worth their while.”
The only thing the truly kept the Oilers from landing this big fish was the fact that no third team could be found who was willing to take on this much money for that many years.
However, the Blues, Red Wings, and Canadiens all showed interest and possess the picks and players to make a deal happen this summer, since no one NOT in the playoffs would want to pay Karlsson the rest of this season…
