Slowly, today and yesterday, rumors have been leaking out regarding players for TEAMS Canada, USA, Finland, and Sweden.
There are already surprises for sure, but yet the official announcement comes tomorrow.
Yesterday, at Flyers practice it was speculated that Travis Samheim and Travis Konecny had been invited to team Canada when coach John Tortorella brought the team together at center ice and there was a lot of cheering and tapping on backs of the Travisses.
There are some mixed feelings around the league that players who are fighting injuries, or just just back from injuries, probably should be considering skipping this tournament, which everyone believes will be an all out war on the ice.
Great for the fans, wonderful for the reporters, but the owners and teams are obviously nervous about sending players into this. I give the NHL credit for this because it’ll definitely bring a lot of publicity to them and for convincing the owners to go along with it. However, I can understand any team, like a Toronto, not wanting Austin Matthews to go and play in something that has nothing to do with the Leafs’ Stanley Cup aspirations.
What’s the Buzz?
Name some players you think might be a surprise and give me your opinion on this tournament in general. Are you excited for it versus the risk that is being taken towards the goal of winning a Stanley Cup?
