How Excited are YOU for the 4Nations Faceoff? |

The players asked for this a long time ago. There is something absolutely wonderful about best on best and country versus country Why? Because these players have played country versus country since they were very, very young…with great importance….
But as for the excitement about the tournament, I’m not reading it as “incredibly .” I might be wrong but I don’t think the NHL teams themselves like this whole lot. And I don’t get a sense that the fans are chomping at the bit either. You know?
I think we’re all gonna love it. I think it’s gonna be amazing and I think it’s gonna be competitive, However, I think the timing feels off … Putting it in the middle of the season like this is I believe the problem, because momentum is starting to build right now and we have some epic, great playoff races going on…
The World Cup of hockey was held in 2016, but more importantly inSeptember. I think that’s a better time to hold this sort of tournament….. this very clearly isn’t the Olympics, and it also is blocking out a lot of very good hockey players with just a four country format…. Perhaps the best player in hockey right now is not gonna be playing in the tournament. Leon Draisaitl… and many more.
The most excitement I get surrounding this is from talking to the top players/the superstars. They are the oneswho want to do this really badly. McDavid wants to play with Crosby. Matthews wants to do this. The Tkachuk brothers playing together will certainly be exciting.
I was lucky enough to cover the World Cup of hockey in person and that U23 team, Team North America, was the fastest team I’ve seen since watching Gretzky, Kurri and Messier play together in the late 80s. I also covered the Olympics in Vancouver, which was amazing….. I can tell you that being at these events in person is about as good as it gets for a hockey fan..
