If a one-sided 5-2 loss at the hands of the Boston Bruins was not bad enough, the Buffalo Sabres lost top center Tage Thompson for "a significant time" according to head coach Don Granato with a hand or wrist injury. The Sabres unlike last year have been challenged in scoring goals, and after setting a career-high 47 goals last season, Thompson is second only behind Jeff Skinner with six goals.
It is unknown how long this injury will keep Thompson out, but it will require Dylan Cozens and Casey Mittelstadt to step up, it may result in Buffalo calling up top prospect Jiri Kulich from the AHL or it could put more of an emphasis on the Sabres making a pitch to WNY native Patrick Kane.
