The Vegas Golden Knights were on the ropes trailing two games to one in their Stanley Cup Semi-Final with Montreal after goalie Marc-Andre Fleury’s flub allow the Habs Josh Anderson to tie the game late in regulation and win it in overtime on Friday.

Knights head coach Peter DeBoer surprised many with the switch from Fleury to Robin Lehner for Game 4, whose only previous outing in the playoffs was a seven-goal pummeling in Game 1 of the Colorado series. Lehner allowed only one goal on 28 shots and kept Vegas in the game with a big save on Cole Caufield that allowed them to turn the tables on the Canadiens, tying the game on a Brayden McNabb goal in the third and win it early in OT on a Nicolas Roy goal.

The question now before DeBoer is whether to go back to Fleury, who has mostly been spectacular in wins over Minnesota and Colorado, or stick with Lehner, who was the Knights’ primary starter in the bubble last summer.

It would not be the first time that Fleury was supplanted in the middle of the playoffs. In 2017, Matt Murray took over for Fleury after Game 3 of the Conference Finals vs. Ottawa and stayed in between the pipes through the Cup Final vs. Nashville.
