Quick hit start your day…
Three teams currently are making the most noise in the rumor mill…. Pittsburgh Penguins…the Montréal Canadiens… and the New York Islanders….
In Pittsburgh…
As for the penguins their biggest concern right now is balance. A lot of changes were made in the off-season and those changes have messed with the recipe that worked in this city for so long. You really don’t have to look any further than Kris Letang to see how different these penguins are. This is a team that goes as the three big players go, but I’d argue that Kris Letang is the key. Management and ownership sure didn’t go out and get Erik Karlsson to hurt chemistry. I’m not blaming the start on kris LeTang here, but I am blaming to start on all the new pieces… Especially when it comes to defensive systems. Pittsburgh would very much love to get a player like a Sean couturier in their lineup. Someone who can play solid In both ends…. Team defense isn’t just about defenseman it’s about forwards playing defense.
On the Island…
The Islanders are becoming more and more stereotypical to themselves. They are still a great team if they can get a lead, but the whole thing falls apart if they get down by even a single goal… and when you can’t score, you can’t get leads… They had big interest in pinto but can’t wait to have a season for him to come back from his suspension.. They had big interest in Pinto, but can’t wait to have a season for him to come back from his suspension… The Islanders are willing to take players for prospects as long as a team takes back some bad salary with thw picks.. That’s the kind of trade it’s hard to pull off this early in the season but the Islanders can’t sit back and wait either…. Something is gonna give. William Nylander?
In Montreal…
The Canadians are definitely heavy in a rebuild, but also there is always a group in their office that is looking for ay reason to accelerate. I know they are currently talking to Vancouver about Connor Garland, and would love to make that deal if the Canucks were to take 50% of the salary. Currently I hear that Vancouver is stuck around 30 to 35% of the salary…. This feels almost too close of a difference to imagine a deal couldn’t get done. Marty St. Louis apparently is pushing hard for this one….
More to come…
