Quick hits this Sunday morning
Following the Mikko Rantanen trade, teams in the east are starting to get nervous and we have a bit of a arms race going on…. It appears as though the Rangers have righted their ship and will be a playoff factor from this point forward. So the question is, has their better play stoppped them from heading into the trade deadline as a serious buyers?
Apparently not. I am told, in actuality, with Rantanen entering their division, New York ownership is pushing harder than ever to obtain either JT Miller or Elias Pettersson. But that’s not the only team to look out for…. The Penguins are also very interested in Miller, and there’s 2 other teams which might really surprised me…
Toronto…
Yes, I am told that there have been some discussions, not too dissimilar to the Colorado/Carolina discussions of sending Marner to Vancouver for Miller plus…. The biggest issue here of course is Mitch Marner has a no movement clause, and loves it in Toronto… however, you can never rule these things out because players sometimes get ticked off and decide they just wanna get out when they’re being shopped. I’m not saying that Marner is being shocked, but the perception can sometimes be reality.
Montreal…
The Canadiens also have been poking around with Vancouver. This is one of the instances where I can’t imagine how this would cap-space wise, because they mainly are interested in Elias Pettersson.
On Brock Nelson….
The Colorado Avalanche are not done here. There is a lot of talk out there that they are talking to the Islanders about Brock Nelson.. the Islanders are on a four game winning streak currently and in general Lou Lamoriello hate to be a seller… Toronto also has interest in Nelson… as do the Bruins.
More to come
