Reports out of Russia are that Evgeny Kuznetsov is bolting from the final year of his deal with Carolina to sign a four-year deal with SKA St. Petersburg. This will be welcome news to Washington, who had to retain $3.9 million in salary to move the troubled forward before the deadline, but perhaps not to the Canes, who lost Jake Guentzel and Teuvo Teravainen up front in free agency.

On another note, I find it interesting that the relocated (and under new ownership) Utah HC club is being entirely separated by the NHL from its history as the original Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix and Arizona Coyotes. For purposes of record keeping, the NHL will treat Utah HC like it's an expansion team rather than part of the same franchise history. Utah HC is also dedicating itself to breaking away from the Coyotes' reputation as a serial cap floor team and plans to be aggressive moving forward in trying to become a competitive team.

We will discuss at 3 pm on the Buzzcast
