Laviolette End Days? Also, Leafs and Habs in Trade Talks? |

The Rangers are in a nit of a pickle right now. The trade freeze is liftedbut they’re still stuck with a team that’s been playing terrible hockey. Last night’s loss to Tampa was another ow point..
The main issue is how the current team is built. If they fire Peter Lavolette, they’ll have a new coach with a team that’s been tailored for Laviolette’s system. Something has to give soon. A month ago I was hearing some whispers that there was some hope for a coaching change in Pittsburgh. But lately the penguins I’ve been playing better and Sullivan seems pretty secure.
I’ve also heard some talk about Bruce Bourdeau, maybe in New York. He’s a different energy than Laviolette, and I think he could help loosen things up for some of the players. You can tell that Laviolette’s time in New York is running out. Even Larry Brooks is writing today about how it’s clear that Laviolette has lost the team.
Of all the coaches I’ve been around, Laviolette is probably the smartest and most intuitive to what’s happening on the ice. You can watch practice with him, and he’ll tell you exactly what’s going to happen minutes before it does. But I do find him to get very frustrated with players who don’t have the hockey IQ he does.
Montreal and Toronto talking trade?
There’s some talk that the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in defenseman Savard from Montreal. They’re also talking about Jake Evans. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if Matthew goes on LTIR. The Maple Leafs will have a lot of money to spend, and trading with Montreal is something that’s happened before, but it it just feels dirty to me.
Stay tuned for more updates!
