More to come, but an interesting story developing in NJ tonight, as Lindy Ruff will be named the Devils' new head coach while Tom Fitzgerald will have the 'interim' tag dropped from his title as New Jersey's general manager.

Ruff, who has served as an assistant coach for the New York Rangers for the last three seasons, has 1,493 career games of head coaching experience between the Buffalo Sabres and Dallas Stars. Overall, Ruff's 1,493 games of experience as a head coach behind an NHL bench is the seventh-most in league history, and his 736 wins are the sixth-most in NHL history.

Ruff last served as a head coach in 2016-17, when he was the head coach of the Stars. The Stars disappointed that season, going 34-37-11 and failing to qualify for the postseason.

Fitzgerald, meanwhile, will assume general manager duties on a full-time basis after replacing Ray Shero following Shero's firing on Jan. 12, 2020.

The Devils are one of seven teams not coming back to finish the 2019-20 season as part of the league's Return To Play format.
