Rumors, Rumors….Monahan, Guentzel, Markstrom

I’m happy to say it….The NHL Rumor world has come to life in the last few days, after a very slow start this season due to Cap uncertainty and many teams underperforming/overperforming early on.

Cats and dogs living together?

There is something to this one. Others are reporting as well, but the Boston Bruins have had serious, albeit preliminary talk, with the Montréal Canadiens regarding Sean Monahan….yes, the two most hated rivals in the sport discussing a trade. Is nothing sacred?

Unfortunately for Montreal, Sean’s on-and-off health issues have played a part in the price tag being much lower than it should be given the unquestionable skill set. The Kings, Panthers, Red Wings, and Devils are all also keeping close tabs.

On Jake Guentzel…

Some have speculated that Guentzel, who is unsigned beyond this year, could be moved if the Penguins fall out of the race…. None of my sources say any of this has been discussed internally within Pittsburgh at this point. The Penguins are still very much in the race, and have been built to be very much in the race….Guentzel is a huge key now and moving forward… were he available, there would be plenty of suitors… as of now, he has made himself into one of the most important players on this team.

On Markstrom…

If there is a trade that could really surprise us in the near future, I can almost guarantee it would revolve around Calgary’s Markstrom and the New Jersey Devils. NJ continues to get goaltending way below their station…. I’ve been told that within a month major decisions will be made in NJ. It would take a serious player(s) going back to Calgary to make the money work, but I’ve been told Calgary and New Jersey already know who that player would be…. But for now, it’s still in a contingency state.

More to come including the winner in the Elias Lindholm “You’re the GM” trade!
