So last week I asked for your offers to try and acquire Patrick Kane. I recovered several interesting offers, in the comments, twitter, and via email, but One definitely stood out and made some sense to me….
FoppaForever in the comments put forth…
People never seem to learn from the past so we get all these ridiculous returns like Karlsson, Hall and Giroux were supposed to get - like Chicago is going to get Nylander plus for a year of Kane. Here's another clue - if the Avs didn't trade Girard to sign Kadri long term they're not trading Girard for a year of Kane.
Here's the kind of trade that could happen:
1) Kane to AZ for future considerations, Chicago retains 50% (5.25 million, the max they can retain).
2) Avs 2024 1st, 2025 2nd and 2025 3rd plus Mikhail Maltsev (look up his AHL numbers for last season) to AZ for Kane. AZ retains another 50% (2.625 million)
3) AZ sends the 1st, 3rd and Maltsev to Chicago to complete the deal, keeps the 2nd for the salary retention.
Avs get Kane at 2.625, Hawks get 1st, 3rd and Maltsev, AZ gets a 2nd. Avs are still 1.3 million under the Cap so they can call someone up in case of an injury.
I probably wouldn't do this deal because I think the Avs have enough and worry about continually giving up picks but acoording to Friedman Sakic has called two years in a row abouit Kane so they're definitely interested and this is about as much as McFarland/Sakic will give, maybe a little more. This is the kind of deal that happens in the real world.
Great insight all around….
I could see this kind of deal happening to…as the Cup Champs really do have a feeling of a possible dynasty in the making, and Kane would never turn down a chance to play for a Cup champ again…
Zack MacMillan Proposed…
I was also intrigued by some others…One that stood out was… Zack MacMillan Proposed…
Alexandre Texier
Gustav Nyquist
Liam Foudy
Emil Bemstrom
2023 cond. 1 conditional on playoff appearance
For
Kane (50% salary retained)
Chicago needs bodies, and 3 young forward bodies with NHL experience won’t hurt the Hawks, where the CBJ can have a unit of Gaudreau—Jenner—Kane—Laine—Werenski on PP1
I also loved the idea of Ottawa getting in on this, I do believe he might consider them….I also believe Florida will be a big player eventually.
So, as you probably heard last week, Bill Daly was quoted as saying that there is a good chance that the salary cap freeze may be lifted a year ahead of schedule…meaning after the 2023-24 Season we could see a MAJOR rise in the number….That means a ton to teams out there and more than a few GMs are looking for some assurances that this could be the case…it was called “major and this changes everything” by one team exec.
I will be talking to more and more people about this, because the affect this could have on the current trade market could be enormous…especially this summer at the draft. Teams are setting up for a rise after 24-25 currently…
