News breaking at this hour. Darren Dreger is reporting that Jeff Gorton is the new head of Hockey Operations...

Gorton is off course the former GM of the New York Rangers, and takes over for Scott Mellanby who has resigned. I am told the Molson family, owners of the Habs, are very unhappy with the way the team is playing, but even more unhappy about the direction the team is going when it comes to GM Marc Bergevin. Bergevin is in the final year of his contract, and despite being a very popular GM AND taking the team to surprise Cup Final just months ago, was NOT extended this off-season.

Bergevin is a very strong personality and won’t take lightly to ANOTHER GM now working on the team like Jeff Gorton. This feels like the Molson’s way of turning upo the heat on Gorton and maybe forcing him to move on in light of the terrible start the Habs are currently experiencing..

More to come...to be sure...
