With Nylander's multi-year, NMC deal done, the gauntlet has been placed down. After next season Mitch Marner and John Tavares will be UFA’s. Having 4 forwards tying up close to $50M of the Leafs cap would appear to be unsustainable if they are to build any kind balanced/contending team moving through the 20s.

Is it possible Tavares takes a hometown discount? Yes. He has made a lot of money, and is the only diehard Leafs FAN who can actually play a part in the return of Stanley to Yonge Street.

But what kind of discount are we looking at here?
