Who Won the Late Night Flames/Flyers Trade. My Analysis…

For those of you, like me, who fell asleep early last night, the Flyers and the Flames pulled off a pretty major roster shake-up trade late last night…

To the Flames…Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost

To the Flyers…. Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 second-round draft pick, 2028 seventh-round pick.

The Flames picked up two once highly touted prospects who have struggled with consistency, but also had moments where they showed some serious skills and abilities..both have plenty of speed, but both have often been in Tortorella’s doghouse as well. I’ve watched these guys a lot and personally I hate to see them go. Morgan Frost is loaded with skill but is also a give-away problem because he tries too many passes that are low percentage. Farabee I believe will thrive with a change and has at times shown great upside in years past. These two will infuse energy into the Calgary lineup.

The Flyers, with Kuzmenko, get a skilled player who can play, and has played, with Matvei Michkov. Kuzmenko proved that when given a skilled player to play with he can out up points. In Vancouver, when he was paired with Elias Petterson, he scored 39 goals in 2022-23. And the second round pick next year adds to a draft the Flyers are already silly with draft picks. This increases the already strong chance the Flyers will bundle and move up in the draft. The downside of Kuzmenko is his speed and defensive abilities…On the surface I wouldn’t call him a “Torts Player.” This still doesn’t give Michkov a center. However, similar to wing Mitch Marner, Michkov is maybe the best set up guy on the Flyers. There have been plenty times this season that he has put the puck on sticks and Flyers players either didn’t have their stick down or were so surprised the puck go to them that they couldn’t finish.

On the surface this is a tough trade to name a winner. Time will definitely be needed to judge this one…

So who do you think wins the trade?
