Some beaking news here is the Red Wings have replaced their head coach, Derek Lalonde, with Todd Mcellan….. We’re on that later.. and Rumors will resume Today but first….. Its World Juniors Championship Time!
Christmas officially starts with the start of the worlds juniors tournament
In Canada this tournament is perhaps the most fun and anticipated 3 weeks of the year.. That same kind of sentiment is starting to build in the United States thanks to the NHL Network recently making this a big deal. But it’ll take some time for the American fans to catch up to the Canadiens when it comes to this. Understand that the week off between Christmas and New Year’s is a great week for a kidand in Canada that meant watching a lot of games in this tournament.
You might think that once someone makes it to the NHL they would think that was the biggest thing by far and is the pinnacle of their career. However, when you talk an NHL player about their time during this tournament their faces ligth up. When you interview them at an All-Star game and you ask, “What’s it gonna be like to play with an All-Star from another NHL team?” they’ll often remind you that they were on the same World Junior Team.
Today there are four games starting at noon.
Basically 12 hours of hockey today on what Canada calls Boxing Day.
Slovakia and Sweden at noon ET
USA and Germany at 2:30
Czechs and Swiss at 5
Canada and Finland at 7:30
The Prelims go right through New Years Eve when the USA will meet Canada again on New Year’s Eve, which to me is a game it should always happen on New Year’s Eve. This is a great tradition and New Year’s Eve needs traditions like this.
