Solid Win in Philly

It wasn’t the most flashy win on Sunday in Philadelphia, but it sure was effective. The Devils showcased the five man defensive system that Head Coach Sheldon Keefe has implemented in his first season with the club, playing it to near perfection. That high level of attention to detail, combined with some depth scoring and reliable goaltending are just what the Devils will need if they plan on playing an 83rd game this season.

Glass Half Full
The Devils debut of former sixth overall pick, Cody Glass was exactly what NJ needed. Glass’ first period goal, gave the Devils a rare early lead, which allowed them to stick to their system and smother the Flyer offense. Let’s hope that the 25 year old center can finally gain some traction in what has been an up and down pro career to this point.

Erik Haula scored a goal! His first point in an astounding 29 games. Haula also added an assist on a Dawson Mercer empty netter late in the third. A seemingly reinvigorated Haula, was slotted along with new acquisitions, Glass and Daniel Sprong driving play while on the ice.

Positive Momentum Loading?
It was big two points on Sunday in Philly, but the Devils must follow it up with another solid performance and most importantly, two more much needed points. As I’ve said before, the only consistency has been inconsistency with this club, and that must change on Tuesday night at the Rock.

Hey Siri, “play Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen.”
