|
What the hockey world wanted was to see Canada's power play, and thanks to a Nylander high stick 44 seconds into the game, we got to see it. And 12 seconds in, le but. MacKinnon from Crosby and McDavid. What a beauty pass by Sid.
Nathan MacKinnon, Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Sam Reinhart and Cale Makar, have combined for 514 career power-play goals.
Canada led 2-0 and 3-1 in the third period, Sweden wouldn't go away mad or otherwise. Off to OT we went, Mitchy the Kid playing hero.
Canada has never lost an NHL International Tournament game in which it held a multi-goal lead. 40 wins and one tie in that scenario, including 28 consecutive triumphs. Mario Lemieux was introduced before the game. Interesting factoid, Sidney Crosby's dad was taken in the same draft as Super Mario.
Take aways from the game. Jordan Binnington, mmmmmm, 3 goals against on 26 shots, two days off before facing the Americans. Adin Hill? or stick with Binnington?
Crosby with 3 assists, at (37 years, 189 days) became the third player (from any country) in NHL International Tournament history to record a multi-point game at age 37 or older, following fellow Canadians Mario Lemieux (0-2—2 vs. Slovakia at 2004 WCH; 38 years, 339 days) and Bobby Hull (2-1—3 vs. Finland at 1976 CC; 37 years, 243 days).
Makar played 28:06, he had 11 games during regular season with more ice time.
Unfortunately, Shea Theodore is out for the tournament. Sanheim is in for him Saturday.
