Defenseman Tony DeAngelo is back in the National Hockey League, with DeAngelo signed to a one-year, $775,000 contract by the New York Islanders on Friday.

The move back to the NHL comes after a brief stint in Russia's KHL for DeAngelo, with six goals and 32 points in 34 games for SKA St. Petersburg before the club made a mutual decision to part ways back on Jan. 14.

The 29-year-old DeAngelo spent last season with the Hurricanes, with three goals and 11 points in 31 games for Carolina before a postseason that featured two assists in nine games.

A veteran of 371 NHL games between four different organizations from 2016 to 2024, DeAngelo is considered a power-play weapon, with 89 of his 210 career points coming on the man advantage.

He joins an Islander defense corps' that's currently without Mike Reilly, and with Noah Dobson considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

The Isles' power play begins Friday ranked dead last in the NHL, at 12.5 percent.
