Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Blake Wheeler led the Winnipeg Jets to a decisive victory against the struggling Vegas Golden Knights, winning 7-3.
This was a huge game for Winnipeg, as they moved within 2 points of a playoff spot, still with a game-in-hand on Vegas. In some other positive news, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Dallas Stars, keeping them from gaining on the wild card race.
The Winnipeg Jets went 12 minutes without a shot in the first, but then managed to get 7 shots in the next 3 minutes after Logan Stanley and Keegan Kolesar throw some punches at each other, and on their next two shots with under 4 to go in the frame, the Jets beat former-Jet, Laurent Brossoit twice.
Blake Wheeler scores on a very quick shot after turning Nic Hague inside-out, and nobody was expecting the shot right there. Kyle Connor also fools everyone on his 38th goal of the season. After two blocked shots by the Golden Knights, Connor ends up with the puck at the top of the circle and while visably looking for a pass, he takes the no-look shot and beats Brossoit five-hole. Stastny, Scheifele, Dubois and Stanley pick up assists in the first.
The second period started with Nicolas Roy scoring to cut the lead to 1 goal, after Zachary Whitecloud made a very risky pinch, and ended up getting this puck on Roy's stick in the slot. Not long after, Nikolaj Ehlers put on a bit of a one-man show, and won a puck battle along the boards and finds room between the 4 Golden Knight defenders, and beats Brossoit.
Just two minutes later, Logan Stanley completes his Gordie Howe Hat Trick, after taking a pass at the blue line and skating the puck down to almost the goal line and beating Brossoit over the shoulder and burys it top shelf. That was the end of the night for Laurent Brossoit, and was replaced by Logan Thompson. To end the period, Josh Morrissey starts the breakout from the goal line and finds Kyle Connor who walks the VGK blue-line and finds a wide open Scheifele entering the zone, who is given too much space and beats Thompson top corner. 5-1 Jets.
On the penalty kill in the 3rd period, the Jets all end up following Nolan Patrick, leaving Pietrangelo wide open at the point who scores through traffic, and Mike Amadio ends up squeaking one through Hellebuyck.
Josh Morrissey makes it 6-3 just 3 seconds into the Jets powerplay, right off the faceoff, making room to his left and cleanly beating Thompson, and Adam Lowry does what we all expect, and finishes off the game with a shorthanded breakaway goal.
The Jets offense came to play, and the defense was stable all game, besides a few hiccups, and Connor Hellebuyck got the job done.
It will be very interesting to see how the Jets respond to one week headed into the deadline, and what comes of that. Thanks for reading, hope you all have a great day!
