Coyotes Beat Oilers - Looking to Make Playoffs by Default

I have to say, when you tune into a Coyotes game expecting to watch Connor McDavid, and he's out sick, it is kind of a drag.

Sure, hockey is hockey, but when you're stuck watching two teams play out the schedule, the least you hope for is some entertainment.

Connor McDavid is one of the few players in the world it's worth tuning in just to see.

Instead we got.........Sam Gagner!

Not bad, I"m a Gagner fan, and he is definitely an NHL player, so it's good to see him back. Kind of ironic that the Oilers bring back a blown top ten pick at this point, but still nice.

I wonder what Nail Yakupov is up to these days? (I still think his skill would play well on any fourth line and power-play).

I just looked it up, and Yakupov is playing with St. Petersberg in the KHL, and he's averaging a goal every other game and .75 points per game. Not too shabby.

I hope the Coyotes chase him in the offseason.

Anyways, Oilers vs Coyotes and if you care, you don't need me to recap it for you!! What is interesting, however, is that after losing five in a row to seemingly eliminate themselves, the Coyotes (or what's left of them) have won four of six.

Insane as it sounds, they're now one point back of a playoff spot.

It's not just that they're making a run for a playoff spot, it's how they're doing it: poorly.

It's like watching someone fall backwards, break their arm and their leg, only to realize they landed on a giant ass sack of money.

To wit: they are fairly tame 4-5-1 in the last ten games. With three point games, you should not be able to move up the standings with a record like that.

But somehow......The Wild are 1-6-3, while the Avalanche 2-5-2, Vancouver is 3-6-1 and Edmonton is worse. Only the Hawks - a team that is absolutely terrible and has even less business hanging around than the Coyotes seem to even want to make the Playoffs.

This marks the eleventh time I've declared the Coyotes eliminated only to reverse the status of my now worthless declaration of elimination.

The Coyotes will get Christian Dvorak and Jason Demers back soon.....maybe, possibly, slight chance of Raanta?

It would be a run for the ages.....the entire Coyotes franchise would have to be awarded the Bill Masterson Trophy....it's crazy.

As Homer Simpson once said, the two sweetest words in the English Language are D and Fault.
