Doan Talks Retirement + A Dramatic Return

The Arizona Coyotes are set to have one of their best seasons ever.

Sure, it's entirely possible that injuries could cripple the team as they did last season, but that is a reality every NHL team faces. Given a normal amount of injuries, this year's team should be pretty good.

Of course that is entirely dependent on the team's two young potential star forwards, Clayton Keller and Dylan Strome, and whether or not they take steps to establish themselves as top tier NHL players.

Last year Strome put on a clinic in the final ten games of the season, and Keller finished third behind two future superstars in Matthew Barzal and Brock Boeser in Calder voting. Should their upward trajectories continue, the Coyotes will have a pretty good season.

While there is optimism for the future, here is a video on the past. Shane Doan's retirement/ jersey retiring talk, which is from NHL.com and linked below.

In other good news, I am returning to cover the Coyotes full time here at Hockeybuzz. So long Capitals, thanks for the Cup. I look forward to covering the Coyotes again, especially now that they are on their way up.

It is much more fun to cover a team that you are emotionally invested in, and I look forward to this return. When reached for comment about this breaking development, the Coyotes PR Dept. declined to issue one.

My mom called the news 'depressing,' and then asked me to vacuum the basement. My cat bit me. I however, am elated. I enjoyed the challenge of learning about an entirely new team, but I really didn't want to spend my spare time watching a bunch of Capitals games when the Coyotes were promising to be the NHL's best up-and-comers. A guy can only not-watch so many games, but my calculator was taking a beating.

From a personal standpoint, I could not be happier. I've got on my Antoine Vermette jersey and I look forward to a great season.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
