The Rangers were on the ice. I repeat, the Rangers were on the ice. Granted, only six players, in line with the requirements of Phase 2 of the return to play protocol, but it's a start. Henrik Lundqvist selected at Rangers' Bill Masterson Award nominee.
Per the NY Post, Brendan Smith, Brendan Lemieux, Chris Kreider, Marc Staal, Adam Fox and Phillip Di Giuseppe participated in on- and off-ice workouts, meeting the maximum six skaters allowed on the ice at any one time. Rangers president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton were also seen entering the facility. Artemi Panarin is among the Blueshirts who are known to be in the area but weren’t reported to be at the facility Tuesday. Panarin was awaiting his coronavirus test result and is expected to be on the ice Wednesday. No other players have been confirmed as in the area or to be in attendance in the near-term.
The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. Lundqvist embodies several of those aspects, especially sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. i might have gone with Chris Kreider, for his leadership on- and off-the-ice for the neophytes on the team this year, but can understand why Lundqvist was the team's nominee.
Presuming all stays normal and we do have hockey at the end of July or beginning of August, asking the readers what type of preview do you want. I could go deep into the numbers, as I used to do in the past (https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=84433), go with a position-by-position breakdown (https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=84755) or just a high-level prediction blog (https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=84803). Open to other ideas as well, seeing this is an aberration of a year.
